Featherweight Frenzy

The classic Singer Featherweight sewing machine will be the subject of an event at International Quilt Study Center & Museum in Lincoln in June. FRIENDS of IQSCM will host “Featherweight Frenzy” June 22-24, 2017, featuring Featherweight maintenance workshops by acclaimed expert, Nova Montgomery, from Hughes Springs, Texas.

Also on hand will be the rare Featherweight collection of JC and Pam Elliott from Casper, Wyoming, along with a Vintage Marketplace on Friday, June 23 featuring antique fabrics and sewing collectibles.

The Elliotts will present a "fireside chat" at 4pm on June 23, and Mont- gomery will give her most popular lecture at 5:30 pm. Entitled "A Century of Progress: The Chicago World’s Fair of 1933 and its Quilt Contest," this lecture looks at the Featherweight’s history as it relates to the Depression-era event, and features information related to quilts and textile history. Numerous historical items related to the 1933 Chicago World’s Fair will be displayed.

The all-day Featherweight maintenance workshops on June 22 and 24 are for anyone who owns a Featherweight sewing machine and wants to treat it to a "spa day" for a lifetime of trouble-free sewing.Tickets are available in two forms: A Feather Passport is for one Featherweight Maintenance Workshop and all the events of Friday, June 23, including museum admission both days. A separate ticket is available for just the events of June 23.
