FAM30 Marsha McCloskey THE LEMOYNE STAR: LESSONS IN MACHINE PIECING Beginner
Level
Draft the basic LeMoyne Star and explore its design possibilities: machine piece set-in seams and match center points
with Marsha's careful instruction. Learn to use the new Precision Trimmer 3 ruler. Excellent for beginners and
those who feel a need to improve skills.
Fabrics - 100% cotton:
- At least 1 fat quarter each:
- One dark - One medium - One light
For 3-block Table Runner add: 1/2 yard for setting triangles 1/2
yard for borders

- 18” C-THRU drawing ruler (B-85)*
- Cutting mat, rotary cutter with new blade, rulers
- Sharp pencil, eraser, colored pencils, compass

FAM31 Claudia Kiser WOOL APPLIQUE Beginner to Intermediate
You will learn the techniques of wool felting, how to cut wool and the know hows of applying wool onto flannel or wool
backing. You will make a small piece with wool and learn the method of appliqué using wool as our fabric of choice.
Supplies:
- Basic sewing supplies
- 9 - 2”x2” squares of wool - fall leaves
- 7” square beige background wool
- 7” square green wool
- Regular thread to match leaves
- Black DMC embroidery floss
- Beige DMC embroidery floss
- Green DMC embroidery floss

FAM32 Barb Gorges HEXAGON MOSAIC BY MACHINE All Levels
Set-in seams are made simple and precise without splitting hexagons. The template you make guides your rotary cutting.
Patterns for making these 4” hexagons into a pillow cover or table topper and instructions for a variation of Grandmother's
Flower Garden are included.
Fabrics:
- Scraps of fabric - at least 6” each - at least 7 will be cut out during class
Pillow Cover top 18”x18”
- Scraps or fabric for 52 hexagons (about 1 1/2 yards total)
Needed to finish cover but not needed for class
- Border - 1/4 yard
- Back - 3/4 yard
- Pillow back - 1/2 yard
- Binding - 1/2 yard
- Batting about 20” square

Table Topper, or pillow with both sides pieced
- Scraps or fabric for 104 hexagons (about 3 yards total).
Needed to finish topper but not needed for class:
- Approximately 20”x 40” backing fabric

Supplies for either project:
- All-cotton thread to blend with fabric
- Frosted mylar template plastic, at least 6” square - must be able to draw on it with a pencil. Also available
from instructor.
- Mechanical pencil and soft white eraser such as Pentel brand that comes in pencil-like holder
- Rotary cutter, mat and 6”x 24” ruler
- Scissors for cutting template plastic
- Thick hand sewing or embroidery needle for punching holes in template plastic
- Iron and towel or tabletop ironing board (optional)

FAM33 Judy Gasseling PLAYING WITH STRINGS All Levels
Early quilters used their scraps (called strings) to make utility quilts. Using this easy technique you will create
your choice from over 20 delightful designs provided in class. Then take the other patterns home to use up more of your
strings!
Fabrics:
- 1/2 yard of 1 or 2 unifying fabrics (tone on tone works best)
- Scraps and strips of fabric
Supplies:
- Fabric rotary cutter
- Paper rotary cutter
- Cutting mat
- 6” x 12” or 3” x 18” ruler
- 'Add A Quarter' Ruler would be great
- Neutral thread
- Sewing machine and basic sewing supplies

FAM34 Gloria Smith LONE PINE STAR All levels
No machine required for class. Class time will be for learning the Russian Knot stitch used to make the tall pine tree
in the quilt center. This stitch has some dimension to it and can be used to embellish any of your own projects.
After you have mastered the hand stitching, the star quilt will be demonstrated step by step. A quick and easy quilt
that you can finish up in no time at all.
Kit fee: $5.00 This includes: FQ of muslin to practice on, hoop, needle, 1 skein embroidery
floss, directions for the Russian Knot stitch, pattern with yardage and instructions for the small Lone Pine Star Quilt.
Bring scissors and any other BSS you might want. Optional -Bring own light source and extension cord.

Becky will be showing a sampling of her quilts, from her very humble beginnings as a quiltmaker through her most current
work, giving tips along the way. She thinks if she can do it, anyone can!
FAM36 Wendy Ray DESIGNING QUILTS AND FABRIC WITH ADOBE PHOTO SHOP
In this presentation we will discuss and see how to use the different tools in Photo Shop to design quilt blocks, import
fabrics into the blocks, design whole quilts using the repeat tools and how to design your own fabric ready for printing.
This will be a Power Point presentation with handouts.
FAM37 Lori Sanders GETTING INTIMATE WITH YOUR SEWING MACHINE
Do you really know your sewing machine? Where to oil? What kind of extra feet to purchase? What to do before
you lose it to fire or water damage? Lori is a wealth of knowledge, full of tips and information to share with you about
sewing machines, threads, tension, feet, insurance… Get better acquainted with your sewing machine - your quilting
experiences will be more enjoyable. You'll want to bring a notebook!
FAM38 Lynn Greer MINIATURES MY WAY
Lynn will discuss the techniques and tools she uses to successfully make her miniature quilts. The lecture will
include a Power Point slide show of the step by step process followed by a “miniature” trunk show.
