SAD57 Judy Woodworth LET'S JUST PLAY All Levels
This National award winning quilter will present a Composition and Design class for the first hour. During this
lecture you'll learn how to design an original quilt, choose the right colors and select the best composition format for your
next quilt. She'll bring many of her award winning quilts for inspiration. Then for the next five hours you'll
get to play. She'll take you through many of her favorite appliqué and piecing techniques. (This will not include
paper piecing or needle turn appliqué. You will not use fusible web.) Judy has gotten permission from Sharon Schamber
(Best of Show winner) to teach you Sharon's new appliqué method that uses stabilizer that you do not need to remove because
when it's wet it turns into fabric. Judy will teach you Sharon's Piec-lique piecing. She'll show you how to use
clothing stabilizer to design an original appliqué. If time allows, Judy will show you her own favorite method to piece
with freezer paper and maybe tell you a little about beading. You'll be provided with both types of stabilizers free
and a free pattern for you to take home but you won't be doing a project in class. Again, we are just going to play
and experiment. You won't need to purchase any new material. You'll be using your own scraps to get through
all these fun techniques. You'll be allowed to play with one technique that really interests you the most, or all of
them. At the end of the day you'll have enough confidence to design your own original quilt. There will be door
prizes.
Supplies:
- Sewing machine with adjustable zig-zag. Bring your best machine so you can practice all those stitches you never use.
Open toe embroidery foot.
- Bring one 18” square from out of your stash (white or beige fabric, NOT WASHED)
- Bring a bag (dozen or more) or your scrap fabrics that you want to use up. If you have time please soak these in
hot water and let dry flat (or steam really good with iron). Bring a few bigger pieces of scraps for the fun experiments
you'll be doing. You'll need a range of value from your scraps such as four very dark, at least six medium and at least
three very light. Value more important than color but throw them on table and see if they look okay together.
- Traveling iron and ironing pad (Can share)
- Sulky Invisible polyester monofilament thread
- Machine embroidery needles 75/11
- Elmer's Washable School Glue sticks (4 or 5) Be sure you don't use a different type of glue stick, even if the brand is
Elmer's.

- Stencil brush
- Stapler and staple remover (can share with friends)

- Fabric scissors
- Rotary cutter and mat
